Cell Phone/Electronic Policy

January 2025, the D6 School Board came out with a revised Personal Technology Device (PTD) policy. For students in PreK through 8th grade, use of PTD is prohibited during the entire designated school day, including instructional time, passing periods, lunch, recess, school-sponsored programs, events, or activities, and other school activities such as assemblies and field trips. All PTD brought onto school grounds must be turned off and remain out of sight, such as stored in backpacks, pockets, or as otherwise directed by school staff. While students may wear smartwatches or other types of wearable PTD, they cannot use communication applications or receive notifications.  Any disruptive use will result in confiscation and discipline in accordance with the Response to Behaviors section described below. Headphones or earbuds can only be used with approval from the building administrator or designee for school-related purposes. Students are not permitted to use headphones or earbuds to listen to music or audio files unless it is necessary for instructional purposes. PTD access cannot be used as a reward for good behavior during prohibited periods. The building principal or designee is authorized to implement school rules surrounding PTD use on school buses and during certain off-campus activities.  Due to daily classroom disruptions, misuse of social media and an overall misuse of cell phones during the school day, all electronic devices and cell phones must be turned off (Door to Door) during the school day. Tointon is not responsible for theft, loss, or destruction of students’ electronics.  If a student has it out during the school day, staff will confiscate it, bring it to the safe in the office, and contact family members to pick it up at their discretion.  Multiple PTD violations will result in additional disciplinary responses, according to D6 Response to Behavior Protocol.
