Cell Phone/Electronic Policy

January 2025, the D6 School Board came out with a revised Personal Technology Device (PTD) policy.  Due to daily classroom disruptions, misuse of social media and an overall misuse of cell phones during the school day, all electronic devices and cell phones must be turned off (Door to Door) during the school day. All electronics must be turned off and be safely stored either in backpacks or in the pockets of their clothing during the school day (7:25am-2:50pm) unless students are otherwise permitted and directed by a staff member.  This includes texting on a watch is prohibited, iPads, handheld gaming is also prohibited in school.   Students can leave their phone in their backpacks, hanging in their classroom, so that students can safely store their cell phone while in the classroom. Electronics are forbidden from use in the cafeteria during breakfast, lunch or outside during recess. We respectfully ask that parents, staff, and visitors refrain from using cell phones within the building unless absolutely necessary. If you need to contact your child during the school day, please contact our front office. Tointon is not responsible for theft, loss, or destruction of students’ electronics.  If a student has it out during the school day, staff will confiscate it, bring it to the safe in the office, and contact family members to pick it up at their discretion.  Multiple PTD violations will result in additional disciplinary responses, according to D6 Response to Behavior Protocol.

***If your child needs to use a personal cell phone for documented medical or educational needs (504 or IEP) during the school day, please contact the front office.  This entire policy on student use of the internet and electronic communications is available at BOE policy JS.
